What to Read This Week
The Chapel Wars by Lindsey Leavitt
What It’s About
Holly is only 16 years old when she’s handed ownership of her grandfather’s Vegas wedding chapel after his death, and she has no clue what to do. Her grandfather’s letter to her also reveals it’s in severe financial trouble, and it’ll be up to Holly to save the family chapel and legacy. The letter tells her to reach out to Dax, who is the grandson of her family’s mortal enemies—the owners of the chapel next door. While Holly doesn’t really want to cross enemy lines, she doesn’t really have a choice.
On top of handling a close family member's death, she's also coping with her parents' divorce, an angsty middle-school brother, a distant college sister, and the long-standing family fight with a neighboring chapel, all while trying to actually run the chapel and earn enough money to keep it open.
And, of course, Dax is not who she thought he’d be, and it turns out, Holly actually kind of likes working with him.
Why You Should Read It
I don’t know about you, but I’ve needed some happy in my life lately. This is one of those books that’s silly and funny and heartfelt and gives you a little faith in humanity back, which I think a lot of people are trying to find these days.
If you marathoned all of The Summer I Turned Pretty and Along for the Ride and need more teen romance in your life, this will be your next favorite summer read. And even if you haven’t watched those or aren’t into YA romance, this is an incredibly fun family rivals story that feels like My Big Fat Greek Wedding and Romeo and Juliet (minus the death) all rolled into one, with some Elvis impersonators just for giggles.
