Under-the-Radar Book of the Week
The Depths by Nicole Lesperance
What It’s About
Have you ever read a book or seen a movie where everything is just too . . . happy? Too perfect? Too glowing? And you know that something is about to go horribly wrong?
This is that book.
The Depths follows Addie Spencer, a young diver, accompanying her mother and new stepfather on their honeymoon. She had a recent accident, and her mother would prefer she not be away. So Addie is stuck on Eulalie Island with her honeymooning mother and nothing to do.
That is, until she meets a boy in the jungle. She knew there was a family with sons who were caretakers of the island, but she didn’t expect to fall for one of them. As the summer stretches on and her feelings grow, the island also begins to change, and Addie slowly begins to realize it may not be paradise after all.
Why You Should Read It
Lots of people like reading thrillers and romances during the summertime — and I’d love for you to give horror a chance. It’s a sunshiney horror, so you don’t need Halloween or pumpkins for this one, and it’ll make you think twice about that shimmering water and the vibrant flowers on your next vacation. Some other hot-weather horror I’ve loved include The Honeys by Ryan La Sala and The Dead and the Dark by Courtney Gould.
Misc.
I’ve been on a four- and five-star reading streak — my summer has thankfully been filled with amazing books. My latest reads I’ve enjoyed have been Chain-Gang All-Stars, The Women Could Fly, and Hey, Hun.

Sometimes you SHOULD judge a book by it's cover, especially when it's a cover as gorgeous as this one!! The longer I look at it the more things I'm noticing. I love it!
I love the concept of “sunshiney horror”! I definitely need that kind of energy sitting by the pool.
