A Field Guide to Getting Lost — Rebecca Solnit. She explores, in memoir-style essays, how distance, loss, grief, and other dark places don’t have to be the abysses we think of them, but rather needed spaces we must traverse and the joy of being in the unknown.
Thank you for reminding us of this Solnit book, which I’d heard about and then forgotten to read! Knowing what it’s about shifts it higher on my TBR. I’m all for getting more comfortable with uncertainty.
My therapist this week has me working on being more okay with the unknown and to stop trying to plan every single aspect of my day/week/life. This is definitely the book for that!
Love this!! I had to read this book for an architecture class in college, but I don’t remember much about it. You’ve inspired me to pluck it off the shelf and reread :)
I have this book on my shelf. I got halfway through it years ago, but then life took a turn and I found I didn’t have enough focus for literary meanderings through deep subjects. Every so often I see it sitting there and feel a little guilty as I very rarely DNF a book….i’m going to give it another go soon :)
It's definitely a hard one if you're not up for slow, meandering thoughts, but I find the cold winter months are perfect for that if you have the space!
Rebecca Solnit had one of my all time favorite essays where a guy tried to explain to her what her own essay was about.
Oh my gosh, heading immediately to find that.

I totally forgot she published this! So excited for the reminder!

Good to find you here, Cassie. Thanks to Book Directory by Abra McAndrews for introducing your bookish writing to me.
