Sharks in the Time of Saviors sounds great. I’ve been trying to find novels that deal with the sea from different perspectives. I’m familiar with a lot of the classic sea stories, but not many more contemporary novels. This sounds like a good one to add to the list.

Have you read Migrations? I highly recommend it! Also might try Sea of Tranquility

I haven’t! I’ll have to check it out. Sea of Tranquility was great. It was my intro to Emily St. John Mandel.

I'd also recommend After the Flood by Kassandra Montag for a more dystopian look at the sea!

As someone born and raised in Hawai'i, I think it’s so cool to see you reviewing a book written by Kānaka Maoli (Native Hawaiians). I have yet to read this book, but I grew up identifying with this place I call home. Now that I appreciate the analogue forms of media (like a good paperback or hardcover book)...I will definitely read this book this year. :) Thank you for the visibility/representation!!

Thank you so so much for commenting (and for teaching me what Kānaka Maoli means!). It was a beautiful book, and I hope you love it!

There are so many little free libraries in my neighborhood and they make me so happy and feel so connected to the community. I take my dog on walks to tour them -- I recently got Lincoln Highway and a Sally Rooney book from them. I was so excited!! Now I need to return the favor and leave a few of my own.

Sharks in the Time of Saviors looks wonderful, thanks for the rec!

What amazing finds! They also make me feel so connected, and like others are out there loving books as much as me, and this is our little way of crossing paths.
