The Centre — Ayesha Manazir Siddiqi. Anisa is feeling stuck in her life and her job. She’s a translator, but instead of translating great works of literature, she is subtitling Bollywood films and living on her parents’ money to help pay her rent. Everything changes when she meets Adam.
Love to see this book appear in my feed! Without a doubt The Centre is making my list of favorite 2023 reads - so original! And I know the ending was divisive, but I think back to it all the time...
Aspiring polyglots and suspense fans unite. I read something about this before the book was published (a deal announcement?) and I am *so* glad you brought The Centre back to my attention. The premise alone makes me giddy. Who wouldn’t do some fairly dark things in order to gain easy language fluency? (Okay, maybe most people wouldn’t, but I struggled with Spanish for years and I’m struggling with Mandarin now!) This is a must-read for me! Can’t wait!
OK, great! The only delay will be in terms of whether I read it or listen to the audio on an upcoming road trip, 3 weeks from now. I thought it might make for a good shareable car book!

YES thank you!! I am such a lover of frustrating endings, which I know I’m in the minority for, but those are the ones that really stick with you...
Agree!
Thanks for the shoutout! Putting a gold on this one.
This book sounds fantastic! And what a gorgeous cover too.
You had me at "an exclusive school." Damn you, Cassie! My holds list cannot handle any more! (*oh yes it can*)
Muahahaha!
I have had this on my list mostly because of the cover ~ will definitely be moving it up my TBR! And thanks for shouting out my recent newsletter :-)
Omg I cannot wait for more people to talk about this book with!
I can’t wait to buy this! Sounds so similar to Babel but with a more unsettling spin (which I looove)
Babel is still on my tbr! I’ve heard incredible things and know I’ll love it! I think it’s going to be my big winter read!
Oh it’s the perfect big winter read!!! I think you’ll really really enjoy it - can’t wait to hear what you think xx
